‘Alternative Energy’ is not an oil and gas documentary nor is it an instruction manual for wiring solar panels.
It is an emotional coming of age tale about a young man by the name of Brandon Baker who has grown up in the small North American city of Medicine Hat in the energy rich province of Alberta. Brandon’s surroundings carve into him the belief that the only way to find fortune in life is to make it big in the oil and gas industry. One chance day with a surprise visit from a long lost relative he is presented with what he considers the opportunity of a lifetime. The only catch being to leave behind his close friends and family and move to the big city of Calgary.
Frustrated with his dead end sweat shop job he packs it in and takes the plunge following the bright lights to promised fortune and rock star lifestyle. But the fast lane has many more lessons for young Brandon than drilling for barrels of oil.
A kiss of love and the stab of loss leave Brandon torn and broken. After a drunken rage he wakes to find himself washed ashore on a foreign land chasing a legendary tale of peace brought to him by a young wild eyed rogue and a crumpled up magazine.
Alternative Energy is a story of alternatives. Not just in career but in life, sex, drugs, friends, family and morale’s. It raises the question we all face in today’s industrial age as we punch the clocks to pay our bills, fill our vehicles and power our televisions, “What’s important in life? What should our priorities really be?”
It’s a solid read with a vast audience. Young adults leaving home for the first time to find their path, workers who have loyally donned the same hat for twenty years, or the newly recruited college graduate sitting at their cubicle reading this post thinking “Man I thought my $30 000.00 student loan would get me farther than this.”
Enjoy the read.
Thank you, sincerely.
